Prayers for the Moments When You Need Words
Whatever you are facing, you can come to God exactly where you are.
Sometimes we know we need to pray, but we simply don’t know what to say.
These prayers are here to help you begin. Read them slowly, make the words your own, and speak honestly to God.
You do not need perfect words. You only need a willing heart.
There is always hope.
GIVE YOUR LIFE TO JESUS
“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Romans 10:13
Lord Jesus,
I come to You just as I am. I acknowledge that I need You.
I believe that You are the Son of God, that You died for my sins and rose again.
I ask You to forgive my sins, cleanse me and make me new.
Today I choose to surrender my life to You.
I receive You as my Lord and Saviour.
Take my past, my present and my future.
Lead me, teach me and help me to become the person You created me to be.
From this day forward, I choose to follow You.
Amen.
You have taken an important first step. You do not have to walk this journey alone.
FORGIVING SOMEONE WHO HURT YOU
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Ephesians 4:32
Lord Jesus,
You know exactly what happened and You know the hurt I carry.
Today I choose to place this person and what they have done into Your hands.
I choose forgiveness, even if my feelings have not yet caught up with my decision.
Help me release the anger, bitterness and pain I have been carrying.
Heal the wounded places in my heart and do not allow what happened to continue controlling my future.
Give me wisdom to know where healthy boundaries are needed, and courage to maintain them.
I release this person from my need to punish, repay or continually relive what happened.
I trust You with justice, healing and restoration.
Help me walk forward in freedom and peace.
Amen.
Forgiveness does not say that what happened was right.
It means you are choosing not to remain imprisoned by it.
FREEDOM FROM ADDICTION
“If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
John 8:36
Jesus, You know my struggle.
You know the habits, cravings and patterns that I have not been able to overcome on my own.
Today I bring this addiction into the light. I do not want it to control my choices, my relationships or my future any longer.
Give me strength to say no when temptation comes.
Help me recognize the situations, thoughts and emotions that pull me back into old patterns.
Give me courage to ask for help and to accept support from people who can walk this journey with me.
Where there is shame, bring grace.
Where there is weakness, give me strength.
Where I have fallen, help me get up and begin again.
Teach me to take this journey one day, one choice and one step at a time.
I surrender this struggle to You and ask You to lead me towards freedom, healing and a new way of living.
Amen.
Freedom often happens one step at a time.
Asking for help is part of taking that step.
WHEN YOU FEEL DEPRESSED OR WITHOUT HOPE
““The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”
Psalm 34:18
Lord Jesus,
I feel so tired, overwhelmed and heavy inside.
Some days it feels difficult to keep going, and I do not always know how to carry what I am feeling.
Thank You that even in this place, You are near.
Thank You that I do not have to pretend to be strong before You.
Please bring light into the places in me that feel dark. Bring peace where there is fear, strength where there is weakness, and hope where I feel empty.
Help me to take one step at a time.
When my thoughts race, quiet them.
When I feel alone, remind me that You are with me.
Give me courage to reach out for help, to speak to someone I trust, and to receive support when I need it.
Carry me through this season and remind me that this moment does not define my whole future.
Please restore hope, peace and purpose in my heart.
Amen.
You do not have to carry this alone.
Reaching out for help is a step of courage, not weakness.
DIRECTION, WISDOM & PURPOSE
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”
Proverbs 3:5
Father,
I bring my plans, questions and uncertainty to You.
You know where I have come from, where I am standing today, and what lies ahead of me.
Please give me wisdom for the decisions in front of me.
Show me what needs to change, what I need to leave behind, and what You are asking me to step into.
Close the doors that are not right for me, and give me courage to walk through the doors You open.
Help me not to rush ahead of You or remain stuck because of fear.
Teach me to listen, to trust You, and to take the next right step.
Lead me into the purpose You have for my life and help me become the person You created me to be.
Amen.
You do not need to see the whole road.
You only need enough faith to take the next step.
